of this face two moments up on capitol hill. a senate committee may vote to confirm chuck hagel as the next defense secretary. a different committee hold as hearing for the man picked to run the cia. john brennan. for more of these controversial nominees, let's bring in our chief congressional correspondent, dana bash, and gloria borger. dana, what are your sources telling you about chuck hagel's confirmation? >> reporter: well, you know, there are supposed to be at least the chairman, carl levin wants a vote in the senate armed services committee tomorrow but it might not happen. one may reason is that many republicans on the committee don't want it to. we're told that they are circulating a letter urging senator levin to delay it. and they say, these republicans, that they are still waiting for key information from hagel. for example, senator lindsey graham told me he still doesn't p have information about the speeches that hagel gave, who he spoke to, what he said, and what he was paid. and the ranking committee, james inhoff said he's looking for people to slow this train down. senator

his remarks on benghazi. do you think hagel's confirmation will go ahead more swiftly that leon panetta has been there to testify? >> one of the requests made by a number of republicans was for a hearing on benghazi. there's a legitimate and urgent concern about protecting our state department personnel, public servants abroad. i recently returned from a trip with senators mccain and graham and others, bipartisan trip, and we saw very directly the potential threats to our state department and other personnel. so i think there is an effort and it's articulated and reflected in today's hearing that this kind of review precede the confirmation of senator hagel. i believe he will be confirmed. that vote will probably be next week in the senate armed services committee where i serve, and i think that there has been little shifting of democratic support and obviously a statement by senator mccain that he would not filibuster it. so i think the chances are very high he will be confirmed. >> one thing that's been pointed to me is general dempsey will acknowledge that the u.s. military d

the charge publicly against chuck hagel. yet he you voted to confirm him as defense secretary. he was sworn two hours ago at the pentagon. why the vote to favor him? >> i filibuster ited him white -- twice because i wanted more information. when republicans stick together we could get information. i was disappointed several on my side after they filibustered him up immediately announced they wouldn't continue the filibuster so we never got the information. i'm the same way on brennan. i want more information on drone strikes in america. on final passage though i take the position that the president does have some leeway and some prerogative who he appoints to political appointees. so i would like to get as much information as can. i will stick with the party, if the party will stick together to get more information. in the end i voted for john kerry also although i agree with almost nothing that john kerry represents. bill: will secretary hagel be a good and satisfactory defense secretary in your view? >> you know, i don't really know. there are many libertarian reasons not to be excited ab
